Last week, Vivian (Books and Training Adviser) and Nick (CEO) had the pleasure of meeting with Gladys Kyotungire – a former Miss Uganda and passionate activist for the Ugandans United to End Child Sacrifice campaign.

Since launching the campaign in 2013, Ms Kyotungire has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of child sacrifice, aiming to change attitudes and influence public opinion in Uganda. She has already reached thousands of students in primary and secondary schools, teachers, Ugandan parliamentarians and community leaders across many of the worst affected districts in the country.

Ms Kyotungire has worked with children who are survivors of abduction, using art and drawing as a way of helping them to express and deal with their traumatic experiences.

Speaking about the ongoing campaign, Ms Kyotungire says:

“We aim to reach every child in Uganda with awareness about child sacrifice hence none will be a victim due to ignorance, empowering them with knowledge through education.

It is of great pleasure to share the vision with Books Beyond Words, I am looking forward to what we can achieve considering no change is small change."

After meeting with Ms Kyotungire and hearing about her incredible work, Vivian said:

She was amazing. She is a queen in my eyes. I feel honoured to have met her, she inspired me "
