Helping People Thrive is the first of two planned practical guides looking at how to transform the lives of people with a learning disability and/or autism who have been detained in hospital or in Long Term Segregation for too long.

The Department of Health and Social Care has worked with Beyond Words Founder and Chair Baroness Sheila Hollins to bring together stories from people who have experienced the system first hand. They show how it is possible to create a new and satisfying life in the community.

Have you, or someone you know, built a new life in the community after being kept in hospital for a long time?

Learning Disability England and their partners at BILD and Valuing People Alliance are collecting more stories.

If you have been out of hospital without readmission for more than a year, we would love to hear from you about:

  • How did you decide where to live?

  • How did you decide who would support you?

  • How does your support help you live your life?

  • What do you want to do next in your life?

Please get in touch to tell your story by emailing: info@LDEngland.org.uk or phoning 0300 111 0444.
