According to a Mencap report in 2020 40% of adults with learning disabilities reported feeling lonely. We know how important it is to belong.

That’s why this month we are encouraging anyone who feels lonely to join a club, and to help you do this we have made The Book Club and The Drama Group FREE to download from our website for the whole of March. We are also giving away a FREE paperback copy of The Drama Group with every purchase of the book Belonging, just add both books to your shopping basket.

World Book Day on Thursday 6th March marks the 1st anniversary of the launch of our Book Club In A Box project which helps groups across England start their own Book Club. Feedback from 312 Book Club Members revealed a significant increase in feelings of happiness, with nearly 20% reporting increased happiness after attending.

The FREE kit comes with everything you need to start a Book Club including:

  • 30 Books

  • 10 Member Lanyards

  • Training

  • Posters

  • A Getting Started guide

  • Evaluation sheets

To find out more Book An Appointment with one of the team, or come and meet Katie and Lucy at the Learning Disability England Conference on Wednesday 5th March.

“I think Book Clubs are brilliant. The books are good, the people are good and you make new friends as well! It makes me feel good to do Book Club.”

— Julie Anderson, Book Club Co-Facilitator and Co-Author of The Book Club.
