Kent book clubs win award

Our Beyond Words Book Clubs in Kent have recently scooped The Citizenship Award as part of the Kent Learning Disability Partnership Awards, which was awarded to them by Paul Carter, CBE (Leader Kent Council). This is now traveling around the various clubs, in order to reach the wonderful people who helped to win this prestigious prize. The Citizenship Award was created to recognise the work of people who are helping to increase access to places and information (for people with learning disabilities), in order to encourage people to be more inclusive, within the local community.

Beyond Words Book Club Co-ordinator Sue Carmichael has spent the last few years gathering troops, working alongside fantastic librarians and volunteers, not to mention the brilliant people who make up clubs - in order to build what has become the benchmark for Beyond Words Book Clubs. Over the last 2 years numbers of attendees and clubs have increased dramatically in Kent and beyond. The clubs have explored reading challenges, interactive reading, visited the National Gallery, staged festive celebrations and overcome challenges to maintain their presence in the borough. This award is a fantastic way to celebrate the work of all those involved.

We'd like to thank, Andrew, Cas, Steve, Liz, Sue, Ray, Julie, Mark, Nic and all those involved in Kent and beyond.
