Beyond Words at the 15th annual LD Today Conference in London

LD Today
Fun was had by all at the 15th annual LD Today Conference. We met with lots of people from all walks of life, including LD nurses, support workers, self-advocates, artists and care managers. Baroness Hollins helped open proceedings as a keynote speaker in the panel responding to the Green Paper for Learning Disabilities.

We shared our books, and our stories through a busy pop-up book club, run by Sue Carmichael and supported by Gary Butler. One of our authors and advisers Lloyd Page (Mencap, Beyond Words) gave a wonderful performance during his stand-up, entertaining a crowd with his witty one-liners. Jim Blair (consultant nurse learning disabilities at GOSH) led the Health Zone during the morning with support from Lloyd page. They shared their expertise in the field and discussed our recently updated book Going into Hospital which is now available now as part of the Christmas sale.

The Learning Disability Today Champion Awards were presented throughout the day, and two of our contributors were on the receiving end. The category of Public Sector Professional was won by Jim Blair (Co-author Going into Hospital) and the Person with a Learning Disability award was won by Lloyd Page (advisor and author of our new book about going to the dentist).
